Houston Astros GM Dana Brown’s Bold Move: Re-signing Alex Bregman to a $200 Million Deal – An In-Depth Analysis”

Alex Bregman Predicted To Sign Near $200 Million Deal With AL Powerhouse

It appears as though Alex Bregman’s days with the Houston Astros are over. Bregman spent the first nine years of his big league career with the Astros as he won two World Series titles with Houston.

But after contract negotiations stalled, Houston added Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes to play the corner infield spots, seemingly putting the final nail in Bregman’s coffin with the Astros.

Bregman’s market is still quite aggressive, though.

Deesha Thosar of FOX Sports recently this winter. Contract projections for the star infielder have ranged from $150 million to upwards of $200 million.

“Just like last year, when we all thought Juan Soto would flourish with Yankee Stadium’s short porch, Bregman and the Green Monster have always seemed like a perfect match,” Thosar wrote. “Boston’s lefty-heavy lineup needs a power-mashing righty to take advantage of that towering left field, and Bregman’s penchant for crushing home runs over the Crawford Boxes should translate well at Fenway Park.

“He’d also represent a notable defensive upgrade at third base over Rafael Devers, who could slide over to first or DH. Moreover, the Red Sox would get the public-facing, face-of-the-franchise competitor they’ve been seeking long term. The Red Sox have the capital – and perhaps even the desperation – to get this deal done.”

The Red Sox have the money to go out and sign Bregman for $200 million. He would also complement their lineup very well. Adding a veteran righty to a lineup stacked with lefties would be a dream for Boston.

While there are still a few other teams, including the New York Mets and Detroit Tigers, chasing Bregman, the Red Sox appear to be the favorites to land the veteran.
