There’s no way the Los Angeles Dodgers are done making moves this winter, right?

Already this winter, the Dodgers have signed Blake Snell, a former two-time Cy Young winner, and brought back Teoscar Hernández, their All-Star cleanup hitter. What moves might be next in their quest for world domination?

Nolan Arenado of the St. Louis Cardinals might be the biggest star on the trade market at the moment. The Cardinals are on the hook for three more years of the $260 million deal he originally signed with the Colorado Rockies, and are looking to shed some salary.

Arenado’s list of desired trade destinations is only six teams long, and his hometown Dodgers might be his number-one choice. But the Dodgers haven’t shown much interest so far. Could that change as spring approaches?

Jim Riley of Ballcap Sports believes so. In a recent YouTube video, Riley proposed a trade that would ship Arenado to the Dodgers for starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin and utility player Chris Taylor.

“I would like to see Nolan Arenado traded to the Dodgers, and there is a way to do this,” Riley said. “The Dodgers can send pieces to the Cardinals to sort of offset it, and in the end, the Cardinals will need to send a little bit of money.”

“Nolan Arenado is your third baseman, Max Muncy is your second baseman, Mookie Betts is your shortstop, and Gavin Lux is on his way out of town.”

The Dodgers have said publicly that Muncy is their starting third baseman, but these things are never set in stone. If the right deal is out there for Arenado, regardless of whether or not it’s this specific package, they’ll happily go back on their word.

It comes down to what kind of money they’re willing to eat to bring in Arenado, if there’s even a dollar amount they’d want him for. The Cardinals are clearly willing to move him, but that doesn’t mean the Dodgers are obliged to take him off their hands.
