Astros’ $150 Million Franchise Legend Projected To Cut Ties In Favor Of Tigers

The Houston Astros have been faced with a difficult decision this winter. Over the last few years, we’ve seen Astros 21st century legends like

Correa and George Springer walk out the door. This offseason, it’s Alex Bregman who they could lose in free agency.

Bregman is projected to land a contract worth north of $100 million with Spotrac projecting his deal to be four years, $119 million. But, you never know how a negotiation is going to go with Scott Boras as the agent.

FanSided’s Nick Villano recently projected where each of the top 20 free agents would go this winter. Villano predicted Bregman would sign with the Detroit Tigers instead of re-signing with the Astros.

“They (The Tigers) ended up winning enough games to make the playoffs, and they even made it to Game 5 of the ALDS after sweeping the Astros in the Wild Card round,” Villano wrote. “Bregman picking the Tigers is him betting on the youth of this team to be the next version of the Astros. He could be the star as the rest of the team develops further.”

For the Tigers to realistically land Bregman, they would have to outbid the Astros (and the rest of the league) pretty significantly. Bregman is quite likely to give the Astros some sort of hometown discount.

If the Astros are caught up chasing other free agents, they could easily lose Bregman. But if Houston wants him back, it’s going to be quite difficult for the Tigers to pry him from Houston’s grasp.
