Former >NBA player Delonte West was arrested once again, this time after he was charged with breaking and entering on November 2, according to TMZ.
West, 41, refused to leave a restricted area in Huntington, Virginia, Fairfax County Police Department said.
The incident happened a day earlier, on November 1, and police corroborated the report through surveillance footage before issuing an arrest warrant.
A day later, police found West walking near the Huntington subway around 9 p.m. and he was arrested and held on $1,000 bail, Daily Mail reported.
West was released on November 3 after being charged with a misdemeanor and is due to appear in court in January.
Delonte West’s legal problems have multiplied
West, who played in the NBA for the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks, has struggled with increasing legal troubles since the end of his career. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2008, but also questioned that assessment.
West earned more than $16 million during his eight-year NBA career, which ended after his lone season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011-2012, when he was just 28 years old.
Since then, West has been involved in a series of unfortunate events time and time again, so the arrest a few days ago is just another chapter in his long history of legal troubles.
In June, West suffered a medical emergency and ultimately had to be revived after another arrest in Virginia accused of violating release conditions and resisting police.
The police officers were trying to serve West with a warrant in Groveton, Virginia, when he fled. A foot chase ensued and when police finally caught up with West, they found him “unconscious”.
“He was administered Narcan by officers, but it did not have the desired effect,” police told DailyMail.com, referring to the emergency medication for drug overdoses. “He was transported to a local hospital and administered Narcan again, which had the desired effect. West was released from the hospital and transported to the detention center.”
A story full of conflicts and mental problems
Days later, West was seen in a disturbing police photograph with unkempt hair and drooping eyelids.
Two years ago, West was seen loitering outside a 7-Eleven store in Virginia, where he appeared to be begging people for money.
A year earlier, West was arrested in Florida for resisting an officer without violence or while intoxicated. The Washington DC native was reportedly seen banging on the windows of a local police station.
According to the police report obtained by WPTV.com, West was yelling obscenities while holding open containers of beer and vodka.
In 2020, West entered a Florida drug treatment center at the urging of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, following a lengthy search by several concerned individuals.
West, a father of two, is still married to his second wife, Caressa. It is unclear if she is in contact with West at this time.
Ten months earlier, another viral video showed West being hit on a Maryland highway.
After that incident, West’s former teammate at Saint Joseph’s University, former NBA star Jameer Nelson, and his former coach Phil Martelli expressed their concern on social media.
“I’m sick today,” Nelson wrote. “Mental illness is something that a lot of people deal with and don’t even know about, until sometimes it’s too late. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on with Dwest, but he knows I’m on his side and I’ll help him get through this.”
“Yeah, I’ve been speaking to him over the last few months, just trying to be there for him as a friend,” Nelson added.
