Lakers Big Man Suffers Injury Setback

The Los Angeles Lakers have a couple of key players battling injuries in the early season.

Reports surfaced on Friday that power forward Anthony Davis is dealing with plantar fasciitis, and will have to manage the injury through the season. On Sunday, Davis left the Lakers 123-103 win over the Toronto Raptors due to an eye injury.

Davis’ plantar fasciitis injury is concerning for a Lakers team that has been without forward Christian Wood. Wood has been rehabbing from knee surgery in September.

The 6-4 Lakers are next set to play the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. Per Dave McMenamin with ESPN, the Lakers did have good news for Davis on Tuesday. He has been cleared for Wednesday night’s game.

However, the Lakers had disappointing news for Wood. The 29-year-old suffered a setback.

“Wood, who underwent an arthroscopic surgical procedure on his left knee in September after missing the last two months of last season with an injury to the same knee, experienced soreness during his ramp-up process,” McMenamin wrote.

Lakers head coach JJ Reddick said the Lakers wouldn’t have another update on Wood for about a month.

“We’re going to scale him back,” Redick said. “We’ll have an update in about four weeks.”

Wood played in 50 games for the Lakers in the 2023-24 season. The former UNLV Rebel averaged 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and one assist in his first season with the Lakers.
