Will the Houston Astros find a way to bring one of their biggest stars back to town in 2025?

Free agency is here and is going to pick up in a major way in the near future. The Astros will be a team to watch out for as they surely are going to be active and look to add to the organization. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Astros bring a top-tier hurler to town.

Houston also will be have to decide whether or not to bring one of the club’s biggest stars back to town. Star third baseman Alex Bregman will be one of the most sought-after free agents. Houston sounds like it’s going to try to bring him back to town, but another team that could get involved in his sweepstakes and land him is the New York Mets, USA Today Sports’ Bob Nightengale.

“The Mets’ winter strategy is the biggest mystery among executives,” Nightengale said. “They don’t believe that David Stearns, president of baseball operations, is interested in keeping (Pete Alonso) for $200 million or paying (Juan Soto) close to $700 million. They believe he’s much more interested in spreading the money around to address numerous areas by signing Walker – or perhaps moving Mark Vientos to first base and finding a third baseman like Alex Bregman.”

If  turn their focus to Bregman, it will be very difficult for Houston to bring him back. The Mets have more money to spend than anyone else and certainly could give Bregman a larger deal than the Astros would.

Bregman is projected to get a four-year, $119 million deal this winter and if the Mets get involved, that number could be much higher.
