The Pittsburgh Steelers are on a roll, as their 6-2 record has them in first place in the AFC North, which is quite a surprise given how competitive the division is. And after beating the New York Giants 26-18 on Monday Night Football to wrap up Week 9, the team received some good news regarding cornerback Cameron Sutton.

The Steelers reunited with Sutton this offseason after his one-year stint with the Detroit Lions came to an end when he failed to turn himself in after two weeks for an arrest warrant related to a domestic violence incident.

Sutton did eventually turn himself in, and he was charged with misdemeanor battery. The incident resulted in the veteran cornerback getting slapped with an eight-game suspension by the NFL. However, eight games have passed now, and the league announced it had officially reinstated Sutton on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh’s already strong defense should get a nice boost with the return of Sutton, who turned himself into a key starter in their secondary prior to his departure for the Lions.

In 2023, Sutton racked up 65 tackles, six passes defended, an interception, and a forced fumble with the Lions. The hope is that now that he’s back, he can play a contributing role in the Steelers secondary as they make a playoff push over the second half of the season.

Pittsburgh’s secondary has established defined roles, with Donte Jackson and Joey Porter Jr. as the boundary corners and Beanie Bishop Jr. emerging as the top slot option in recent weeks. Sutton’s return from suspension adds valuable depth, providing the Steelers with a versatile option capable of stepping in across multiple positions if needed.

And now that he’s reinstated, Sutton will have some extra time to get himself ready for action, as Pittsburgh has a bye week before they take on the Washington Commanders in Week 10.
