Shohei Ohtani, Dodgers Bullpen Disappoint MLB Fans in World Series G4 Loss to Yankees
There will be no sweep in this year’s Fall Classic.
The Los Angeles Dodgers lost Game 4 of the World Series to the New York Yankees 11-4 on Tuesday, meaning they’ll need at least five games to claim a championship.
Things got off to a good start for Los Angeles as Freddie Freeman hit a two-run home run—his fourth of the series—to make it an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. New York quickly answered with an RBI from Alex Verdugo in the second and a grand slam from Anthony Volpe in the third to give the Yankees their first lead since Game 1.
The Dodgers made it close in the fifth after Will Smith homered and Tommy Edman scored on a fielder’s choice, but Austin Wells’ sixth-inning home run made it a 6-4 game before the Yankees put up a five-spot in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
Shohei Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury in Game 2 but played in Game 3 and on Tuesday. The star couldn’t get much going, finishing 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
It was a bullpen game for Los Angeles as reliever Ben Casparius started on the mound. From there, the Dodgers looked to Daniel Hudson, Landon Knack and Brent Honeywell. Los Angeles’ pitching staff gave up 11 earned runs and nine hits and picked up just four strikeouts.
After the game, fans were disappointed with the bullpen performance and lamented Ohtani’s shoulder ailment.
Dodgers Andrew @DodgersAndrew
That grand slam hudson gave up is gonna cost this game. This was gonna be tough with the bullpen anyway, but the chances after that are slim.

Dodgers weren’t on tonight.

Bats were quiet (except Freddie and Will)….

Bullpen wasn’t

We come back tomorrow
Al King @AL_KING2169
Dodgers need a big inning. They don’t have a bullpen left it’s just depleted
Doc @ManLook75
Dodger fans be acting like Dave Roberts on a BullPen game got so many pitchers to use. Somebody got to get through a few innings at. least lol lol.
Justin Wulach @OtherBeardedOne
The bullpen game worked once and failed twice for the dodgers during the NLCS and World Series altogether. Evan Phillips is greatly missed and Jack Flaherty knows he needs to top his game one performance tomorrow night
Cam @JudgesTorres
Dodgers have a half billion dollar payroll and rolling out bullpen games to get the yankees hitters hot! i love it
I.AM.DC @DC81656
If a Dodgers didn’t have to use their Bullpen tonight, the Yankees would lose this game. #WorldSeries
Deeran @Deerrann
I get Ohtani is our super power, but that shoulder is crippling his ability to do ANYTHING
Sal Morrongiello @SalFALantonio
Wow. Ohtani is completely cooked right now. That shoulder is done
Brandon @BrandonOlsh
Ohtani’s shoulder is shot
Matt @Matt_M_626
Ohtani coming off his swing early and not following all the way thru just to ease some pressure off that shoulder smh that tells me he ain’t feeling good rn
The good news for the Dodgers is that winning the first three games of the series means they’re still just one win away from winning the World Series and the Yankees have a massive deficit to overcome.
The bad news is New York’s bats got hot on Tuesday as it scored double-digit runs for the first time this postseason and will have Gerrit Cole on the mound in Game 5.
The series will stay in the Bronx on Wednesday as Los Angeles looks to end things.
