Nicolas Raskin transfer bids predicted as quality shines through in Rangers comeback

Nicolas Raskin in action for Rangers

Nicolas Raskin is expected to be the subject of transfer offers in the summer after impressing for Rangers and Belgium.

That is the view of Ian McCall, who was reflecting on Raskin’s impressive performance in Rangers’ comeback win over Falkirk.

Rangers trailed 2-0 at Falkirk Stadium on Sunday afternoon, but they pulled one back before half-time and scored five more times in the second half en route to a 6-3 win.

Raskin scored one of those goals and assisted another in what was a brilliant midfield performance – at least once the visitors got going.

The 25-year-old is no stranger to transfer talk at Rangers and that is unlikely to change ahead of the summer window.

Ian McCall expects more Nicolas Raskin interest

Raskin was linked with an Ibrox exit last summer, especially after falling out with then-boss Russell Martin, but he ultimately remained in place.

Given Raskin has two years to run on his Rangers contract, the club will not exactly be forced into a sale at the end of the campaign.

With Raskin now a regular for Belgium, having accrued 11 caps since his debut last year, McCall believes fresh interest – and indeed bids – can be expected.

“It helps playing in the Belgium national team obviously and he will be the one who is on a lot of peoples’ books in terms of bids coming in for him”, McCall said on BBC Radio Scotland.

“I remember Billy Dodds saying he preferred him a bit further up because he thought he could influence the game and score goals – and he can.

“It was pretty apparent today when he scored that important third. I think he can do just about every job in the middle of the pitch.

“For a small wee guy, he is strong and he is really, really good in the air. He’s one of these guys that is a complete midfield player.”

While nobody will disagree with what McCall’s said, it will only heighten the anxiety that one of Danny Rohl‘s key players could be poached in the summer.

Where could Raskin end up if he leaves Rangers?

Besiktas were strongly linked with a move for Raskin in the winter window, but it is not known how advanced that interest was.

Multiple English Premier League clubs were mooted with an interest last year, meanwhile, including Tottenham Hotspur.

It does seem as though a move south of the border could be on the cards for Raskin, who would be well suited to that league.

Rangers fans are realistic in knowing that top players eventually move on, but it is all about getting the timing spot on.

And if the Gers can convince Raskin to stay on for one more season before landing a new club in 2027, that would surely be best for all parties.
