Rangers vs Falkirk: Danny Rohl flying as ‘impossible’ flashback to Russell Martin appears

Rangers travel to Falkirk on Sunday looking to banish the nightmare memory of Russell Martin.

Martin was sacked after eight Scottish Premiership games earlier in the season, drawing 1-1 at the Falkirk Stadium before being escored away and sacked later.

Danny Rohl is now in charge and will look for the three points that keep his side right on the tail of Hearts ahead of the league split.

The German was finally backed by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises, despite initially going for Martin and then even pushing to appoint Kevin Muscat.

Russell Martin quickly forgotten at Rangers

Hugh Keevins admits it’s impossible not to remember the fate of Martin after he was escorted away by the police before being sacked after that past draw.

Writing in the Daily Record, the journalist was quick to cast a positive light on the changes that Rohl has delivered at Ibrox since then.

“It’s impossible not to see Rangers at Falkirk’s ground without being reminded of their last visit in October,” Keevins started.

“The day when the game was drawn, and then Rangers manager Russell Martin had to be given a police escort from the stadium to ensure his personal safety.

“There was nothing that could protect Martin’s job security, and he was given the push a matter of hours later.

“Rohl came in after a process of elimination, and a transformation was begun. Danny inherited a team who were 13 points adrift of Hearts.

“Double digits are now single figures. Strategic leadership has now replaced wild swimming.

“You don’t need a psychology degree to see the benefits derived from Rohl’s reset.”

It looks as though Rangers will need to do it the hard way if they want to secure another huge three points ahead of the split, though.

Rangers learn grim injury news at Ibrox

There were fears that Ryan Naderi would miss the rest of the season, and although that is still unclear, it doesn’t look good for the German.

Rohl confirmed a serious injury in his latest press conference, admitting it would be a weekly procedure of checking on his striker’s progress.

Tuur Rommens is also still currently out injured, with the left-back possibly set to return for the split fixtures, with next week’s break heavily welcomed.

Thankfully, Rangers finally have depth available to them.

Jayden Meghoma has stepped in for Rommens, while Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti have both scored important goals already this season.

With Celtic and Hearts both winning on Saturday, it’s critical that Rohl and the Bears pick up all three points, regardless of what it takes to get them.
