There were several winners to have emerged from West Ham United’s win over Wolves.

On Friday night, West Ham smashed Wolves 4-0 at the London Stadium to pull themselves out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

After so long without league action, this was a statement of intent from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, particularly after recent doubts following defeats to Aston Villa and Leeds.

With that in mind, Hammers News looks at the winners and losers from Friday’s game.

Winners

Taty Castellanos

Valentin Castellanos has proven a transformative signing for West Ham, which is an amazing feat given no one is sure quite how good he really is.

There are doubts about the Argentine’s ability to score goals at elite level on a consistent basis, but his brace – albeit a very fortunate one here – took him five goals in 16 games since joining from Lazio.

Two goals lifted the pressure off him.

Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno is often accused of going too defensive too quickly.

However, he named an attacking team here and was duly rewarded. West Ham pressed well after scoring their first goal, which effectively brought about the scoring of their second and third.

Nuno needed to go on the front foot against his former club and doing exactly that helped secure a huge result.

Pablo Felipe

Just like Taty, there have been doubts about how effective Pablo Felipe can be.

Pablo was dreadful against Leeds in the FA Cup last week, but responded in fine fashion on Friday night.

His fancy footwork teed up Taty for his first goal and was an indication that there is perhaps more to come from Pablo.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Where there was an element of luck to both goals scored by Taty, there was nothing fortunate about the brace that Konstantinos Mavropanos bagged.

No matter what happens between now and the end of the season, the towering defender has enhanced his reputation tenfold.

Unbeatable at times, this was yet more proof that he is a palpable goal threat too.

Other players might grab the headlines if West Ham stay up but Mavropanos cannot be forgotten.

Losers

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

It’s currently difficult to see how Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets back into the team right now, which is hardly helpful ahead of DR Congo’s World Cup campaign later this summer.

Kyle Walker-Peters has been brilliant in recent weeks and that continued on Friday night.

Only a few minutes into the game, the right-back made a vital block to stop Wolves from taking an early lead.

On current form, Walker-Peters is surely a better bet.

Leeds United

So much has been made about the fact that Tottenham are now in the bottom three and West Ham fans will no doubt be delighted with that fact.

In recent weeks, it’s looked like a battle between Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Spurs to beat the drop – assuming that Wolves and Burnley are already down.

However, Leeds have now been dragged right back into it. West Ham are just a point behind them before Daniel Farke’s side play Manchester United on Monday.
