Celtic: Andy Robertson transfer ‘pulling on heart strings’ as Liverpool exit looks likely

The 32-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and no progress has been made towards a new deal as things stand, placing clubs on alert.
Tottenham failed in an attempt to lure him away from Anfield in January, and extending his stay at Liverpool remains a possibility, but Celtic are also keen.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, the Hoops are pulling on his heart strings with the offer of a move to his boyhood club.
While doubts about the likelihood of a deal have lingered, Celtic are making ambitious transfer plans, with the Scotland international firmly on their radar.

Celtic plot move to lure Andy Robertson to Parkhead
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in January that Celtic are keeping tabs on Robertson in case he becomes available on a free transfer.
With that possibility seemingly growing more likely as the season edges towards a close, they are likely to be among many clubs exploring a move.
However, they will face high-profile competition from a number of top European and Premier League clubs, leading to doubts about their chances.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Andy Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan, he started his career there before being released.
“It’s a move that would be pulling on his heart strings, but I don’t think it’s any more than that just now.
“Celtic have got Kieran Tierney in at left-back, so where do you fit both of those players in the team?
“And although he’d be a free agent it wouldn’t be a cheap deal to do because of the wages that probably Andy Robertson’s on right now.

“Robertson at this stage of his career still probably want to play at the highest level possible so I’m sure there’ll be rival Premier League interest in Robeson’s signature if he does become a free agent.
“There’ll be interest from abroad as well so it’ll be a difficult deal to do for Celtic at this stage.”
Liverpool’s stance on Robertson’s future revealed
Despite growing interest in his signature, there remains a firm possibility that Robertson could stay at Liverpool beyond the end of the season.
The left-back confirmed after scoring in the Reds’ win against Wolves that he is committed to the club, but provided little clarity over his long-term position.
Football Insider revealed on 14 March that Liverpool are prepared to offer Robertson a contract, but it will be up to the player whether he opts to sign it.

His performances when called upon under Arne Slot have convinced the chief decision-makers that the Scotland international still has plenty to offer.
However, it will be up to him whether he puts pen to paper or opts to explore other opportunities with both parties open to any situation.
