Lindsey Vonn offers health update one month after horrific Olympic injury

It’s been just over one month since 41-year-old American downhill skier and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonnsuffered a horrific leg injury just seconds into her first downhill competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.

She had to be airlifted to a local hospital in Italy, where doctors diagnosed her with a complex tibia fracture. The injury came just one week after she had ruptured her ACL during a World Cup run in Switzerland.

Despite that setback, Vonn initially elected to keep competing. She completed two training runs on back-to-back days leading up to the downhill event, but ultimately took a devastating fall shortly after the race began.

As expected, she was ruled out for the remainder of the Winter Games and underwent several surgeries. After weeks of treatment overseas, she was able to return to the United States, where she underwent additional procedures. Vonn later revealed that doctors came close to amputating her leg.

However, Vonn is now back home rehabbing and appears to be making extraordinary progress. On Friday, she shared a video on Instagram showing herself riding a stationary bike.

“Guys…. I’m biking!! Starting with 5 minutes… making progress one day at a time,” Vonn wrote.

Vonn’s Olympic journey is likely over, considering she would be 45 by the time the next Winter Games are held in France in 2030, but she remains driven to return to the slopes in due time.
