Youssef Chermiti News: Jack Butland and Mohamed Diomande Respond

Youssef Chermiti of Rangers is seen pre-match during the Premier Sports Cup Semi-Final match between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park, Glasgow / ...

Youssef Chermiti has quickly proven his doubters wrong after becoming Rangers‘ first-choice striker under Danny Rohl.

While many were critical of Cyriel Dessers, it appeared like a difficult task to replace his goals at Ibrox, and very few were confident of the former Everton man filling his shoes for the 2025-26 season.

However, the 21-year-old now has nine goals and two assists in 32 games, including a recent hat-trick against Hearts and a brace against Celtic in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers require some huge transfer plans ahead of the summer, especially if they are to challenge for the Scottish Premiership title next season, but the big-money move for Chermiti appears to be paying off.

Chermiti is finally being acknowledged for his starring performances at Ibrox, with the centre-forward rightfully being photographed with a new award at the training ground.

Taking to Instagram (13 March), Rangers’ official club account wrote: “Youssef Chermiti has been voted SPFL Scottish Premiership Player of the Month for February.

The Portuguese forward has been recognised for his goalscoring form, which included a hat-trick against Hearts at Ibrox, while he has also scooped the SPFL Goal of the Month award for his spectacular overhead kick against Celtic.

“His treble against Hearts set Rangers on their way to a 4-2 victory, while he netted twice in the first-half in the 2-2 Old Firm draw in the final weekend of February.“

The announcement gained the attention of many, with both Jack Butland and Mohamed Diomande liking the post on social media.

Rangers still have concerns over the 21-year-old attacker

Despite standout performances against Hearts and Celtic, it has not been the perfect start to life in Scotland for the youngster, and apparently, that is being discussed.

Football Insider understands that Rangers’ concerns are growing over Chermiti. Still, they have no plans to let him leave, having turned down offers from Turkey for him during the January window.

There are certainly improvements to be made. He can do better to hold the ball up, make more of his chances, and also get involved in the play more. It’s a positive start, nonetheless.

Bojan Miovski has failed to impress, despite bagging 10 goals in all competitions, while Ryan Don Naderi is still trying to find his feet after joining from Hansa Rostock in February.
