Rangers official sponsor claps back as police chief calls out club for Ibrox controversy

David Edgar has reacted as a new video has emerged of a Scottish police chief discussing events that unfolded after the Scottish Cup clash between Rangers and Celtic.

The police have made nine arrests already, and that number is expected to rise as dozens of fans invaded the Ibrox pitch and caused damage in different parts of the stadium.

Rangers will also bear damages understood to be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds as scenes turned ugly following the penalty shootout.

Chief constable slams Rangers and Celtic for not condemning the incident

Jo Farrell, the chief constable, spoke at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday and slammed both Rangers and Celtic for not condemning what happened at Ibrox.

She said that, despite the ongoing media coverage, there was no commentary by either Old Firm side about it.

Farrell wanted to see both clubs take a stand against the violent actions by their fans and issue a statement.

The police chief admitted that while more resources can be put into football, she would like fans to attend games without fearing for their safety.

She stated: “Members of the public were injured, officers were injured, lots of coverage in the media in relation to the events of Sunday afternoon.

“When we got to Monday evening, there was still no commentary from either of those clubs in respect of the violence that was witnessed. Nobody came out to condemn that violence.

“We can put more and more resources into football, but that doesn’t solve the underlying issue that people should be able to attend those events without fearing for their safety.”

David Edgar claps back at the police’s failure to do the job

David Edgar, who hosts the Heart & Hand podcast, a sponsor of Rangers, believes the police failed to do their job on Sunday.

While he agreed that the clubs should have spoken against it and come out and condemned it already, this felt like the Scottish police were passing the buck.

He believes that they should have foreseen this happening as there were 7,500 away fans in what is one of the most heated fixtures in world football.

There is a reason why away allocation is such a big talking point in Old Firm games.

For years, there were no travelling fans, and this showed why it has been such a difficult issue for all parties to deal with.

Edgar wrote on X: “I mean, yeah, but you failed to foresee it or do anything about it, which, you know, is kinda your job.
