Practice makes perfect as Eddie Howe makes brilliant William Osula reveal

William Osula’s brilliant late goal for Newcastle United against Manchester United was no accident, Eddie Howe has confirmed.

Osula came off the bench to seal an absolutely crucial victory for 10-man Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Convince me otherwise: Eddie Howe gave me my greatest day as a Newcastle fan but he has taken us as far as he can

DISCLAIMER: It’s not all his fault, chaos behind the scenes and PSR does not help 😡

He’ll always be a hero but everything comes to an end

The Dane, who has endured an injury-riddled campaign thus far, scored a fine individual goal to seal a dramatic win for Howe’s side over the Red Devils on Tyneside.

While Osula hasn’t always convinced, the Newcastle United manager revealed the extra training he’s put himself through behind the scenes has paid off.

Osula was practising Newcastle United goal in training

Speaking after the game, a visibly delighted Howe was full of praise for the former Sheffield United forward.

During a season in which none of Newcastle’s strikers have particularly convinced, Osula has shown flashes of brilliance.

His goal against Michael Carrick’s side was another example of that, and it seems as if the 22-year-old had been practising that exact finish in training.

Howe told BBC Sport: “He did 10 shots at the end of training and he wanted more. Fair play to him. It’s the desire to repeat and to practice. He’s delivered an amazing moment for the supporters here. It’s a great moment for him and he deserves it. Hopefully it’s. turning point for him.

“A big moment for us. We’ve proved we’re competitive against any team.”

Practice makes perfect. Osula has been criticised for a lack of end product but it’s important to remember that he’s a relatively young player.

Progress in such talents isn’t always linear and perhaps this is a momentum upon which to build going forward.

William Osula’s stats for Newcastle United against Manchester United

Osula almost left Newcastle in January and that was also the case last summer.

His long-term future at the club has never really seemed all that certain, although performances like this one will surely do his chances of staying on Tyneside the world of good.

Howe only afforded him around six minutes of action, but Osula made an impact even beyond his goal.

As per FotMob data, he won three of his four attempted duels, made two ball recoveries, and one tackle too.

With neither Yoane Wissa nor Nick Woltemade impressing recently, Osula has a chance to stake his claim for a starting berth.
