Arteta Lavishes Praise on Danny Welbeck as the “Complete Striker” Ahead of Brighton Showdown

Mikel Arteta has heaped glowing praise on Danny Welbeck, describing the Brighton forward as a “complete striker” and warning his defenders to be fully alert ahead of Arsenal’s crucial clash with Brighton & Hove Albion F.C..

As Arsenal prepare for another high-stakes encounter in the Premier League, Arteta made it clear that Welbeck remains one of the most intelligent and dangerous forwards in the division — despite no longer being in the traditional spotlight.

Welbeck, who previously wore the Arsenal shirt between 2014 and 2019, has evolved significantly since his move to Brighton. Injuries may have interrupted parts of his career, but Arteta believes the striker’s all-round game now makes him more complete than ever.

“Danny has everything,” Arteta said. “He can press, he can run in behind, he links play extremely well, and he has that physical presence inside the box. He understands space and timing. For me, that’s what makes a complete striker.”

The Arsenal manager also highlighted Welbeck’s experience at the highest level, having previously played for clubs like Manchester United F.C. and represented England national football team on numerous occasions. According to Arteta, that experience translates into leadership and composure during key moments.

Facing Brighton is never straightforward under their dynamic system, and Welbeck plays a pivotal role in their attacking structure. His movement off the ball often creates space for teammates, while his defensive work rate sets the tone from the front. Arteta reportedly warned his center-backs that even a brief lapse in concentration could prove costly.

“He doesn’t just score goals,” Arteta explained. “He creates problems. He drags defenders out of position. He presses with intensity. You cannot relax against him.”

Brighton’s fluid style means their forwards frequently interchange positions, but Welbeck’s ability to hold up play and bring others into the attack makes him a focal point. Arteta acknowledged that his defenders must be ready for both physical battles and tactical intelligence.

Interestingly, there is also a sentimental layer to the story. Welbeck remains respected at Arsenal for his professionalism and memorable contributions — including decisive performances in domestic competitions. While emotions may linger among fans, Arteta insists sentiment will have no place once the whistle blows.

“This is football at the highest level,” Arteta said. “We respect him a lot, but our focus is on stopping him.”

Arsenal’s defensive unit has been one of the league’s strongest this season, but Brighton’s unpredictability poses a unique challenge. Arteta has emphasized compactness, communication, and discipline as key factors in containing Welbeck’s influence.

The Spaniard’s strong words underline how seriously Arsenal are taking the threat. In a title race where every point matters, overlooking an experienced striker like Welbeck could be a costly mistake.

As the Emirates braces for an intense encounter, one thing is certain: Arteta’s defenders have been warned. Danny Welbeck may no longer be in North London red, but in his manager’s eyes, he remains the definition of a complete striker — and a player capable of deciding big games.
