Celtic News: Benjamin Nygren Backed To Make ‘Big Summer Move’

Benjamin Nygren’s impressive goalscoring record at Celtic could earn the midfielder a move to the Premier League.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks Nygren will leave Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Nygren has scored 18 goals and registered seven assists during his debut season in Glasgow, proving a key player in Celtic’s bid to retain their Scottish Premiership title.

Celtic will rebuild their squad in the summer, amid their underwhelming season on the pitch and with a new manager expected to replace Martin O’Neill.

Benjamin Nygren a ‘success story’ for Celtic

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – is backing Nygren to reach 20 goals by the end of the season.

    MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Celtic will have “no choice” but to let Nygren leave the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yes, Mr Nygren is certainly a talent and I think he’s going to be snapped up certainly in the summer.

“I think he’ll get his move and, of course, the Celtic board will love the money coming back into the bank account, and you know they won’t be spending it either.

“But yes, I think he’s been one of the success stories for them. He’s not finished yet. I think he will get 20 to 25 goals and that’s enough to get you the big move that you wanted somewhere in Europe or down to England either way.

“I think he is a talent and I think he could do well elsewhere. And so, yes, I think, Celtic will have no choice but to let him go at the end of the season.”

    Celtic star set to depart

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic will accept offers for Daizen Maeda in the summer transfer window amid his desire to leave the club.

Maeda revealed that he wanted to leave the Hoops last summer, and the forward’s contract expires at the end of next season, meaning the club wants to cash in on him whilst they can.

The 28-year-old has come under scrutiny from the fanbase for his poor form this season, with the Japan international not hitting the heights of previous campaigns like many of his teammates.
