Keith Hackett in agreement with Alan Shearer’s law change proposal after Rangers controversy vs Celtic

Rangers’ title hopes suffered a blow at Ibrox, with Celtic coming from 2-0 down to secure a point, courtesy of a late penalty.
Dujon Sterling, completely unbeknownst to him, deflected a goal-bound header off his arm, with Reo Hatate scoring as a result of the penalty.
After several incidents in the Premier League over the weekend, Alan Shearer called for the handball rule to focus on deliberate actions only, and Hackett agrees after what he witnessed in the latest Old Firm.
Why was Dujon Sterling not sent off for Rangers handball incident?
Whether it was harsh or not, the penalty was awarded, and that directly caused the Light Blues to drop two points in a crucial stage of the season.
Sterling could have done nothing about it, but with the header looking as though it was on target, referee John Beaton had no choice but to award the penalty after being instructed to check the incident by VAR.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Hackett has reaffirmed that point, while also explaining why Sterling avoided a red card.
He said: “The match officials in this situation under the handball law have no alternative other than to award a penalty kick.
“A red card for the denial of an obvious goal is not issued on the basis that the goalkeeper had a high probability of stopping the ball from entering the goal.
“Once again, the handball law creates controversy, and I support Alan Shearer that this law needs to change and we start to emphasise the word ‘deliberate’ action before awarding a free kick or penalty kick.
Danny Rohl has growing Rangers concern after Celtic win
Rangers were dominant in the first half, but the changes made by Celtic turned the game on its head, and the hosts very rarely had a say after the break.
And that has been the case on a handful of occasions this season, leaving Danny Rohl in need of finding the recipe to address that concern.
After the latest draw, the Gers have now won just one of their last four games in the Scottish Premiership, with that win coming against Hearts.
They sit six points above Rangers at the time of writing, showcasing the importance of Rangers addressing their second-half drop-off which has happened far too many times.
