Danny Rohl sack reveal ridiculous as Rangers title demand emerges

Danny Rohl may be a victim of exceeding expectations as Rangers fans look to win the William Hill Premiership title after an abysmal start to the season.

After one of the worst starts to the campaign under Russell Martin, many deemed it impossible for the Gers to be in the race for the league title, but the German manager could seemingly do the unthinkable.

Ibrox will host Celtic in the league on 1 March, and a win in the Old Firm derby will surely be a massive boost in the Light Blues’ hopes to close the gap on table-toppers Hearts.

Daily Record journalist Fraser Wilson believes that while the former Sheffield Wednesday boss may now need to win a trophy for fans in G51 to consider this campaign a success, any suggestions about his job being under scrutiny for not winning silverware would be ridiculous.

Danny Rohl has already achieved something remarkable at Rangers

Rohl has turned the Gers into the league’s most in-form team this season.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

When Martin was in charge, he managed to win just one of his seven William Hill Premiership games before being sacked at Ibrox.

From a season that looked dead and buried from the get-go, the German manager has revived hopes at the Light Blues, which already says a lot about the job he’s done in Govan.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss may already consider the 2025-26 season a success, regardless of getting his hands on the trophy after what’s transpired at the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking on Game On, Wilson said, “I thought you were going to ask whether he needs to win silverware to keep his job. That would be ridiculous if he didn’t.

“Yes, he does need to deliver silverware for the season to be a success. But for him to have been a success, I don’t think it’s imperative because what he took on, the state of the football team, the squad and what they were delivering on the park, in an instant, he’s turned it back to what Rangers fans expect.”

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises can’t let go of Ibrox golden egg

Rohl has surely built a solid reputation so far after what he’s been able to achieve during his short spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Rangers.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the German manager move to a top club sooner rather than later if he continues to impress at the Gers.

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises made some massive errors in their initial appointments of Martin and Kevin Thelwell, but they’ve now found the right personnel for the Govan side.

The American owners can’t afford to part ways with Rohl, who has brought much-needed stability to the Glaswegian outfit, anytime soon, and the 36-year-old’s career trajectory will be worth watching closely.
