Jens Berthel Askou has now emerged as the outright favourite to take the Celtic job ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The current Motherwell manager has overseen an outstanding campaign to date, as they sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership.

As it stands, the Steelmen are not yet out of the title race after their 5-0 demolition of St Mirren on Saturday, remaining 10 points behind table-toppers Hearts, while also possessing a game in hand.

With Martin O’Neill expected to part at the end of the season, Askou has been linked to the Hoops for some time.

Now, the 43-year-old has emerged as the odds-on favourite with one bookmaker at 10/11. On Sunday, Askou was previously 3/1 for the role.

How good has Jens Berthel Askou been at Motherwell?

Since joining Motherwell in June 2025, Askou has transformed the club into one of the best sides in Scotland.

On Saturday, their victory over St Mirren saw the side extend their Scottish Premiership run to just one defeat in 19 matches

On top of this, the Steelmen matched a club record 20 clean sheets in a single season.

Their form has seen Motherwell seriously enter the conversation regarding the title race following their statement win, especially after both Celtic and Rangers dropped points.

As a result, Askou has established himself as one of the best upcoming managers in Scotland, boasting a 52.78 per cent win rate at Motherwell.

Who else is in the running for the Celtic job?

Following Askou, Roberton Martinez remains in the mix at 9/4. The Portugal National Team manager has been heavily linked to the Hoops for weeks after the departure of Wilfried Nancy.

Ange Postecoglou and O’Neill both remain in the mix at 12/1. The former has been out of work since he was sacked at Nottingham Forest earlier this season after a short and terrible reign.

Graham Potter is also considered an outsider for the job at 14/1. The former Premier League manager was also sacked this campaign, leaving West Ham after a poor start to the season.

However, with their still being months left to go until the end of the season, it remains to be seen who Celtic opt to appoint in what could be a very difficult period for the club.
