Djeidi Gassama is biggest casualty at Rangers as Danny Rohl strikes perfect Ibrox balance, here’s why

Djeidi Gassama may be wishing that he had taken the opportunity to leave Rangers in the winter transfer window.

The winger was linked with a move to Villarreal and AS Monaco just last month, but the Bears weren’t keen on letting him leave.

There’s a high chance, though, that the two clubs are still monitoring the Frenchman ahead of a possible summer move, which hasn’t been ruled out yet.

When Danny Rohl first came to Ibrox, it seemed like Gassama was the biggest beneficiary due to their time together at Sheffield Wednesday.

However, that might not be the case anymore.

Djeidi Gassama could now stay on Danny Rohl’s bench

Rangers‘ 4-2 win against Hearts may have been the biggest three points of the season, and the most important eye-opener under Rohl at the same time.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

The Gers boss opted for a 4-2-2-2 variant, which played the wide men in an inverted role. The German head coach started with Mikey Moore and Andreas Skov Olsen on the flanks, with Gassama benched.

Though on the surface it may not seem like a big deal, it was arguably the Bears’ best attacking performance considering the opponents and magnitude of the game.

    • Gassama has played 27 times in the league
    • He has two goals and three assists

Gassama came off the bench and grabbed an assist, something he hasn’t been able to do too much of at Ibrox so far, which may have made Rohl have a lightbulb moment.

With Rangers flowing so fluidly against the Jambos, Gassama may now be seen as a more effective choice from the bench, with his pace an undeniable threat.

But this means his playing time will be reduced from now until the end of the season, which could prompt the 22-year-old to push for a move.

Why Rohl has found his perfect team after Hearts win

Make no mistake about it, the win over Hearts could be the added push of momentum that the Bears need to get over the line for the title.

Though Celtic are creeping up, Gers have the best squad in the league, and even have multiple players yet to return from injury.

The midfield pairing of Tochi Chukwuani and Nico Raskin that was seen against the Jambos should now be seen as untouchable, with Ryan Naderi and Youssef Chermiti’s striker partnership also proving unstoppable.

The backline picks itself, and the only player that was missing from Rohl, having found his perfect team, was James Tavernier. It’s a scary time in the Scottish Premiership, but not for Rangers.
