Jesse Lingard could’ve swung Scottish Premiership title race in Rangers’ favour – here’s why

As revealed in a report by TEAMtalk, as many as seven British clubs were offered the chance to sign Lingard in the January transfer window, all of whom declined.
Rangers are claimed to have been one of them, alongside bitter rivals Celtic, who opted to sign a different free agent in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain instead.
West Ham, Burnley, Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and Coventry City are said to be the other sides Lingard offered his services too, but he is now reportedly set to sign a contract with Brazilian side Remo.
It’s a fascinating update following on from Rangers’ winter transfer window, and Danny Rohl may well live to regret not signing the former Manchester United and England star.

Jesse Lingard still would’ve had plenty to offer Rangers
As shown in the above graphic from Sofascore, despite the fact he’s now 33-years old, Lingard can still produce some impressive attacking numbers.
He finished the 2025 K-League season with South Korean side FC Seoul as Sofascore’s third-highest graded player with a 7.42 rating, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 34 league appearances.
The 32-cap England international also made 11 Team of the Week appearances in 2025, and as shown by his heatmap, covered pretty much every blade of grass in attack as he was deployed across the forward line.
Lingard also ranked second for big chances created (14), third for key passes per game (2.53) and fourth for shots per game (2.94) respectively, showing just how impactful he was for Seoul.
Having signed for Seoul as a free agent in February 2024, the former Nottingham Forest and West Ham attacker has played 67 times for them, scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists.
As such, he’s shown that his engine warning light isn’t ready to start flashing just yet, and with Rangers going for the Scottish Premiership title, he could’ve been a hugely impactful player to bring in mid-season.
Lingard could’ve saved Rangers money on Naderi
It’s not clear how much money Lingard would’ve wanted to sign a contract with Rangers, and that could’ve ended any potential deal even if Gers were interested.
However, the fact he’s reported to have offered his services to Ibrox chiefs would perhaps suggest he’d have been willing to sign a reasonable deal, and had he done so, Gers could’ve saved money on Ryan Naderi.
It was claimed that Rangers had a verbal agreement to sign Naderi in the summer, but after failing in their pursuit of Cameron Archer, decided to stump up even more cash to bring him to Glasgow early.
Had Lingard signed, then Rangers surely wouldn’t have felt the need to do that, and thus could’ve got Lingard perhaps on a deal until the end of the season, and then signed Naderi for less money anyway in the summer?
It’s certainly a food for thought scenario.
