Harry Gray’s future at Leeds United examined: What’s next for the Whites’ upcoming star?

Harry Gray is comfortably the youngster with the most potential at Thorp Arch.
Leeds have had some incredible youth talent emerge from Thorp Arch over the years, from the likes of Archie Gray and Kalvin Phillips more recently, to names such as James Milner and Gary Speed.
However, the Whites have plenty of talent coming through the ranks today who could easily go on to have just as successful careers as some of the names above, and Gray is easily at the top of that list.
The 17-year-old made one Championship appearance for his boyhood club last season, and was sent out on loan to League One Rotherham in January to gain valuable first-team experience.
But after his first month in senior football, what is the next step for him?
How has Harry Gray fared at Rotherham?
The talented teenager has not had a lot of time to showcase his true quality, but on the occasions he has had minutes, he has impressed.
Gray has two goals in five League One appearances for Rotherham, having played a total of 437 minutes since arriving on loan.
Those two goals have arrived from a total of 0.48 xG, showcasing his ability to make a difference in and around the penalty area.
Understandably so, Gray has struggled at times with the level of physicality down in League One, as showcased by the fact that he has won just 39.2 per cent of his duels.

But that is to be expected given his age, and that is the sole purpose of these loan moves to the EFL.
As a result of a head injury, Gray’s last game for the Millers came back on 7 February, but his return is imminent, and what he does between now and the end of the campaign could shape his future.
What comes next for Harry Gray?
This will come down to two things. Will Leeds still be in the Premier League next season? And will Gray return to form with Rotherham?
If the answer to both of those things is yes, then we could easily see the teenager make a step up to Championship football next season.
It’s highly unlikely he gets a look in at Elland Road if they are to stay in the top flight, and if he can keep scoring goals in League One, it’s just as unlikely he will have to stick around there for much longer.
Gray will have one year left on his deal at Leeds United come the summer, and the likelihood is that it will be extended before a decision is made on where his football will be played for the following campaign.
