Rangers fans savage ‘rotten’ John Souttar as his full stats from Hearts clash emerge

John Souttar has been called out for being the weak link in Rangers’ team despite a hugely important victory over Hearts.

Rangers cut the lead to Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership table to just two points following a 4-2 victory over the Edinburgh club at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl’s side came from behind to earn the three points thanks to a Chermiti hat-trick and an own goal from Hearts defender Michael Steinwender.

It was a return to winning ways for the Gers after dropping two points in a draw against Motherwell, which could still prove costly come the end of the season.

Whilst the three points were the most important thing for Rohl to take away from the game, the German manager may not have been impressed with Souttar’s display.

Souttar won just five of his 10 aerial duels and two of his five ground duels, whilst the defender also committed two fouls.

Many Rangers fans believe Souttar should not have been beaten in the air by Claudio Braga for Hearts’ second goal.

The 29-year-old is one of the first players that the Rangers support would look to sell in the summer transfer window.

One fan said that Souttar is a “major problem” whilst another claimed that he was the “worst player on the park” against Hearts.

    James Tavernier contract update emerges

Souttar may not be the only defender leaving Ibrox at the end of the season, with right-back James Tavernier’s contract expiring in the summer.

Rangers will delay Tavernier’s contract talks amid a tight title race with Hearts and Celtic, which could also be crucial for their European aspirations next season.

The 34-year-old has not been a guaranteed starter at the club this season, with Dujon Sterling preferred in his place against Hearts.

Tavernier has spent the last 11 years at Rangers, and has a remarkable goalscoring record from right-back, as well as being an excellent penalty taker.

This season, Tavernier has seven goals and three assists in the Scottish Premiership, making him the club’s joint top goalscorer alongside Chermiti.
