Celtic fans mock Neil McCann for ‘absolutely delicious’ comment after win vs Kilmarnock: ‘I could listen to this all day’

Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann is on the phone as he stares across a split image towards Celtic fans.
Celtic fans are making the most of their 3-2 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday by laughing at Neil McCann.

The Killie boss suggested that the officials “just made up” the total of seven minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game, which eventually saw Julian Araujo hammer home the winner for the visitors.

McCann’s strugglers raced into a two-goal lead inside the first half hour at Rugby Park, as Celtic’s Scottish Premiership title hopes appeared to be in tatters.

However, quickfire second-half strikes from Sebastian Tounekti and Benjamin Nygren saw the Bhoys fight their way back into the game, before Araujo’s late winner secured the points.

Former Rangers star McCann was quick to try to lay the blame on the officials for his team’s late concession, much to the delight of the Celtic fans.

Martin O’Neill’s side are developing a handy knack of scoring late winners, and it is continually helping them to stay in touch with Rangers and Hearts at the top of the table.

Araujo’s back-post effort on Sunday came in the final seconds of the seven minutes that were added by referee Duncan Nicolson, who ended up playing into the 99th minute after some wild celebrations for the goal.

McCann was evidently frustrated with the manner in which his team saw the game slip away from them, but that has prompted Celtic fans to jump in on social media and make a mockery of his situation.

Supporters took to X to poke fun at the 51-year-old, with one Celtic fan suggesting that his comments were “absolutely beautiful,” and that they could listen to his complaints “all day.”

Several fans were also quick to point out to McCann that the seven minutes could also have been used for his team to push to try and find a winner.

    • @Gabbarelli: “They had 3 players down faking injury for 4 minutes minimum. Add on any sub/Var times he’s lucky it wasn’t 10.”
    • BagginsGSX1250: “Most people who watched the game would have thought 8 or 9 mins given the injuries. This is embarrassing from McCann, but absolutely delicious.”
    • @Pauliano2: “Does he not realise that his team can also score?”

Celtic’s late goal stats spark stunning reveal

Celtic have gained a reputation this season for snatching victories from situations that look particularly bleak for them within games, and it has seen Rangers fans grow increasingly frustrated with them.

However, it has now become clear that the Gers faithful do not really have a leg to stand on when it comes to this debate, as they have in fact scored more late goals than their bitter rivals.

Danny Rohl’s side have scored 14 times after the 76th minute in league action this term, according to SoccerStats.com, while they have also shipped five goals in that time.

By contrast, Celtic have scored 12, and have only conceded twice in the final knockings of games.

That doesn’t legislate for the exact number of goals that have come after the 90-minute mark for the Bhoys, but it does highlight the fact that Rangers have profited just as much in the latter stages of games.
