Should West Ham be excited or scared with Nottingham Forest set to confirm Vitor Pereira?

West Ham will have one eye firmly fixed on Nottingham Forest as they officially unveil Vitor Pereira as their fourth manager of the season.

The Hammers and Nottingham Forest are locked in battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

West Ham have now won five of their last seven games as Nuno Espirito Santo leads a resurgence since losing 2-1 to Nottingham Forest at the start of the new year.

After that defeat, many felt Forest would be safe and West Ham were doomed to the drop as the gap from 18th place to safety was widened.

Nuno has brought in his own players and the penny finally seems to have dropped with the players over his style of play.

Panicked Forest feeling the pressure from resurgent West Ham

West Ham’s superb form has dragged Forest, and several other clubs including Spurs, into the relegation dogfight with 12 games to go.

When the Hammers threw away two vital points by conceding a 96th minute equaliser against Man United on Tuesday, it felt like a defeat given Forest were playing basement boys Wolves 24 hours later.

Yeah I agree. Hard to see him playing again this season unless a kind draw in the next round?

Was Trying to influence the game but did not see enough of the ball, average for me.

But they were held to a 0-0 draw which infuriated Nottingham Forest chief Evangelos Marinakis into sacking Sean Dyche.

The Hammers now sit just three points behind Nottingham Forest in the table and the Tricky Trees play Liverpool next in the league while West Ham face Bournemouth the day before.

That gives Nuno’s current side a huge chance to seriously pile the pressure on his former club.

Many outside Forest felt Dyche was their best hope of staying up.

So some West Ham fans were delighted when he was axed this week.

Leading journalists have since claimed that Nuno had a direct hand in Marinakis’ Forest head loss too, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the relegation battle.

Now Marinakis is set to name his replacement, as Forest appoint a FOURTH manager of the season.

After controversially sacking Nuno, Forest have seen Ange Postecoglou and now Dyche come and go.

It will be a battle of the Portuguese for who survives as former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is appointed at the City Ground.

Should West Ham be excited or scared as Forest appoint Pereira?

Pereira has signed a deal until the end of next season and looks set to be officially announced on Sunday or Monday.

The 57-year-old returns to the Premier League following his sacking by Wolves in November after 11 months in charge at Molineux.

Things are looking up 😍 So who are we sending down to the Championship?!

    Forest? Leeds?……Spurs? 🙏

So should West Ham be excited or scared as Nottingham Forest confirm Pereira?

There are two ways of assessing the appointment when weighing up whether Pereira’s appointment could be boom or bust for Nottingham Forest and, as a result, West Ham too.

Looking at Pereira’s record when he was sacked by Forest earlier this season, it is fair to say the Hammers will be hugely encouraged.

Something of a managerial nomad, Pereira joined Wolves in December 2024, but was sacked three months ago with the club on two points from their first 10 league matches of the season.

West Ham will look at their record and be convinced Forest have done them a favour by sacking Dyche.

But it is Pereira’s initial impact at Wolves that will worry the Hammers and has most likely been the driving force behind Forest’s decision to hire him.

In terms of new manager bounce, Pereira’s record certainly bodes well.

Three days after taking over Wolves, they beat Leicester 3-0 away from home to spark a revival.

The new Forest boss then oversaw a 2-0 win against Man United, a draw at Spurs, and an FA Cup win over Bristol City after a defeat to Nuno’s Forest.

Pereira had worrying new manager bounce at Wolves but dismal end

After a difficult run of defeats, Pereira lifted the team to go on a superb run which sealed Wolves’ safety for another season.

Wolves won six and drew one of their seven Premier League games in March and April, including victories over the Hammers, Man United again and a thumping 4-2 triumph over Tottenham.

Pereira went winless in the final four league games of last season. Added to the fact Wolves did not win any of his first 10 games of the current campaign – it will be that that 14-match winless run that gives West Ham real hope and excitement that they will catch Forest.

The new City Ground chief has an impressive average win ratio across all of the clubs in his career of over 52 per cent.

But his record at Wolves was just 36.84 – the lowest of his career.

If the former Flamengo boss gets a tune out of his team quickly, though, then he has proved he is capable of leading a side on the kind of run of results needed to secure survival between now and May.

One man who does think Pereira will keep Forest up is Robert Earnshaw, who believes Spurs could be the ones to go.
