Soungoutou Magassa embarrasses, Adama Traore electric – West Ham player ratings vs Burton Albion

Nuno Espirito Santo watched his 10-man West Ham side fall over the line in an extra-time 1-0 FA Cup win against Burton Albion on Saturday.
The Hammers travelled to the Pirelli Stadium to take on the League One side in a fourth-round FA Cup clash that they perhaps understated, despite a 1-0 win.
West Ham struggled to create chances throughout the game, and it wasn’t until Nuno brought Crysencio Summerville on that the Irons saw a moment of brilliance with the Dutchman curling in the winning goal.
The Irons then needed to battle the rest of the extra time out with 10-men after Summerville’s goal, as Freddie Potts was given a controversial red card in the 101st minute of the match.
It wasn’t pretty, and there were certainly some interesting performances from some of Nuno’s men.
Soungoutou Magassa was terrible against Burton
Though Potts’ red card will give him criticism, it was a genuine attempt to win the ball. Soungoutou Magassa, on the other hand, had a nightmare game and got the Hammers off to the wrong start through a lack of urgency in his performance.
The Irons were somehow dominated in midfield early on in the game, and a large reason for that was Magassa’s inability to get a hold of the game.
As highlighted by the Sofascore graphic below, the Frenchman was specifically poor at winning duels. The midfielder was involved in 25 ground duels and came out the winner in just nine of them.

Magassa hasn’t been a regular starter under Nuno in recent games, and his performance this weekend has surely harmed his chances of playing moving forward.
Adama Traore shone vs Burton
Adama Traore was West Ham’s biggest threat against Burton. The Spaniard was always looking to hurt the Brewers when he was on the ball, and ended up leaving the game unlucky not to have registered an assist.
The right-winger drew mixed reactions when joining from Fulham in a permanent deal this winter, but his running power and effectiveness was on display in this game.
He sent in inviting crosses in the second half, and was surely looking in disbelief at his West Ham teammates as to why they weren’t throwing themselves at the ball.

As highlighted by Sofascore in the graphic above, Traore completed three dribbles in the match, while padding two key passes to his name.
The 30-year-old was subbed off for Taty Castellanos in the 82nd minute, as the latter failed to make much of an impact.
