Derek McInnes to Rangers theory emerges again after Danny Rohl latest
Danny Rohl and Derek McInnes have been two of the best managers in Scotland this season.
However, Rohl came under fire after Rangers drew 1-1 with Motherwell on Wednesday evening and suffered his first major hiccup in Govan.
Hackett says VAR was right not to rule out Leeds’ goal vs Chelsea for handball beforehand!
McInnes has been linked with Rangers in the past, but he chose to join Hearts in the summer, and it’s safe to say that the move has paid off.
The Edinburgh outfit have exceeded all expectations this season as they sit five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers take on Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday, and Rohl can’t afford to lose to the Scotsman, or the title could find itself out of his reach.
Rangers fans may want Derek McInnes in the summer
Rangers lost 2-0 to Hearts at Ibrox in September, with McInnes’ direct style of play catching out Russell Martin’s side numerous times.
The Bears then suffered a 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle on 21 December, with both results proving to be costly in the title race.
A win over Rangers on Sunday would see them go eight points clear of the Bears and send a huge statement to both Old Firm clubs that this could be their year.
Having managed at four different clubs in Scotland, McInnes’ expertise at this level shines above every head coach in Scotland.
Whilst he may not have a flashy CV, it’s undeniable that he will be sought after again if Hearts do go on to win the Scottish Premiership.
| Stat | McInnes |
| Games managed | 809 |
| Wins | 372 |
| Draws | 188 |
| Losses | 249 |
| Win percentage | 45.98% |
Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 12 February, Keith Jackson believes that if the Light Blues lose to Hearts, throwing away their title hopes in the process, fans might want the board to sack Rohl and hire McInnes.
He said: “If Rangers were to collapse on the back of two results in the matter of a few days, where does that leave Rohl?
“If McInnes completes the fairytale and wins the league with Hearts, what do they do next?
“A lot of fans might be saying that Rangers should go in for McInnes. And if they could, would they choose McInnes or Rohl at that point?”
If Rangers don’t win the title this season, there’s no indication that Andrew Cavenagh would let go of Rohl, who has been brilliant to even get them back in the race after Martin.

Derek McInnes might not want to leave Hearts if he was offered Rangers job
It is also unclear whether McInnes would leave a successful project under Tony Bloom at Hearts for a move to Govan.
The Jambos would be in the Champions League playoffs if they win the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 1959-60.
European football at Tynecastle seems like something McInnes wouldn’t want to miss out on, and with the backing of Bloom, they could very well make the league phase.
Hearts are altering the landscape of Scottish football and proving that teams outside the big two can compete at the top.
That is all thanks to McInnes, who has gained a phenomenal reputation in Edinburgh and might not want to let that go in the summer.
Rangers would likely just continue the train under Rohl, regardless of what happens.
