Worrying Danny Rohl trend emerges after Motherwell draw, it’ll cost Rangers the title

Rangers have stumbled in their Premiership title push.

Rangers‘ win over Motherwell on 27 December kick-started a six-game winning run in the Premiership, catapulting Gers into serious title contention.

However, when it came to playing out the reverse fixture on Wednesday night, that winning run was over, after being held to a 0-0 draw away at Hibernian on 1 February.

And, in a midweek that saw both Hearts and Celtic claim wins, Danny Rohl‘s side were unable to follow suit, as the points were shared at Fir Park in a 1-1 draw, with Motherwell playing the final 12 minutes with 10.

Danny Rohl record is going to cost Rangers Premiership title

Rangers are now five points behind leaders Hearts with just 12 games of the season to go, as their hopes of a first title win since 2020-21 are on a knife’s edge.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

The biggest game of Gers’ season awaits them on Sunday too, as Hearts travel to Ibrox in a 4.30pm Premiership blockbuster, with the outcome sure to have major title ramifications.

So, Rohl’s side would naturally have loved to head into that game full of confidence after a big away win, but they’ll now have to pick themselves up in time for Sunday, as Hearts look to land a knockout blow.

However, since taking charge of Rangers in late October last year, Rohl has struggled to get results against the best teams in the division.

Indeed, from the eight games his side have played against top six Premiership sides this season, Rangers have won just four of those, drawing three and losing once.

It goes without saying that to be the best, you’ve got to be able to beat the best, and Rohl’s Rangers just haven’t been able to consistently achieve that this term.

Indeed, across pretty much all of those games – bar a half against Celtic – Rangers were way off their best levels.

How many more games do Rangers play vs current top six?

Before the Premiership splits into the top six and bottom six sections, Rangers have seven more league games to play.

From those seven matches, Gers face three more sides who currently occupy a top six place.

Those are: Hearts (H, Sun 15 February), Celtic (H, Sun 1 March) and Falkirk (A, Sat 11 April) respectively.

As such, Rangers must use these games to address their form against top six teams, as once the league splits, those are the only standard of sides Gers will play for the remainder of the campaign.
