Archie Gray levelled the tie from a corner routine in the second period but Jacob Ramsey had the final say, popping up with his first Newcastle goal to seal all three points for his side. Tottenham, in the hours after the game, took the decision to relieve Thomas Frank of his duties as manager.

For Newcastle, there is hope Tuesday’s victory may act as a springboard towards the business end of a busy campaign.

“It’s a huge, huge win, a huge three points for us, especially if you look at the last games,” Malick Thiaw told NewcastleUnited.com. “We were struggling, we have to be honest, but it’s a huge win for us spiritually and mentally. We are really happy for this one.”
