Callum Wilson backtrack shows comical side to West Ham after latest exit news

Callum Wilson looked set to quit West Ham United.

West Ham secured a huge 2-1 victory away to Tottenham at the weekend, but it did little to distract people from the series of errors that have been not just on the pitch, but also off of it in the last 12 months.

One of the biggest issues has been recruitment, both from a player perspective and from a managerial point of view.

However, the latest news concerns the former and showcases just how badly run the Hammers are under David Sullivan, and why those making the decisions are contributing to the downfall of a once mighty club.

Callum Wilson exit decision made at West Ham

Prior to the weekend, it was looking like more of a case of who Wilson would join, as opposed to whether he would quit.

    Now, that’s changed.

Roshane Thomas has reported via X that Wilson is now set to stay at West Ham, having scored the goal to secure all three points for the Hammers in North London.

    MORE WEST HAM STORIES

What’s strange about it is the fact that Nuno Espirito Santo had often refused to play the 33-year-old in favour of playing without a recognised striker.

West Ham were seemingly open to Wilson’s exit, with some reports claiming they were even willing to terminate his contract to allow him to find a new club.

Everyone, aside from those who matter in this instance, knew that the Englishman had plenty to offer, and it’s comical that it’s taken a stoppage-time winner for paid professionals to realise that.

The head-scratching decisions have not stopped there for the Irons

Wilson staying is a no-brainer, especially given the situation that West Ham face in regard to their fight against relegation.

However, what seems far more nonsensical is the fact that West Ham are closing in on the signing of Keiber Lamadrid – an unknown 22-year-old winger from Ecuador.

The Hammers are five points adrift of safety in the Premier League, and yet still appear to be taking risks from a recruitment perspective.

Lamadrid may well prove to be the next big thing in English football if a move is to be finalised, but it is very much looking like another deal that will be heavily scrutinised in months to come.
