West Ham United could bank £35m as Lucas Paqueta agrees exit terms already

Lucas Paqueta has agreed personal terms with Flamengo ahead of his inevitable West Ham exit this month.

West Ham do not want to sell Paqueta, but the Brazilian’s heart is set on a return to his homeland.

The attacker revealed earlier this season that he came close to going back to Brazil, but in the end, no deal was agreed.

Nuno Espirito Santo is trying to keep West Ham up, and losing the 28-year-old could be detrimental to the Irons’ chances of staying in the Premier League.

As per Fabrizio Romano‘s update on Monday, Paqueta has agreed to all relevant terms to join Flamengo, with the ball now in West Ham’s court.

Paqueta has been a crucial player for the Hammers over the years, but the forward has admitted his mental struggles to perform after previous betting allegations.

His London Stadium exit has been touted many times over the past couple of seasons, but now it seems like his departure is more likely than ever.

According to Jacob Steinberg on Monday, Flamengo are willing to pay up to £35.8million, but West Ham may remain reluctant to his sale.

The Hammers shelled out an initial £36million for the Brazilian back in 2022, with add-ons that may have taken the full price past the £50million mark.

Paqueta’s sale will do more good than bad

Paqueta is tied down to a contract at the London Stadium until 2027, but the Hammers do have the option for a year extension.

He will no doubt be on big wages, and with Championship football a real possibility for the Irons next season, his sale will alleviate financial pressure.

GamesGoalsAssistsPaqueta’s Premier League record this seasonWest Ham have already spent big this window on the likes of Taty Castellanos and Pablo, and if further additions are required, then Paqueta’s sale will help.

After all, the former Olympic Lyon star hasn’t been at his best this year, as a return home looks best for all parties.

It’s been a fun ride, but now is the right time for Paqueta’s journey at E20 to end.
