Daniel Farke has no choice but to sell £10m Leeds United man after Derby disaster – The Leeds Press

Leeds United fought back to secure a 3–1 victory over Derby County in the third round of the FA Cup, moving into the next round and demonstrating the depth available to Daniel Farke.

The Whites went in at half-time trailing 1–0 at Pride Park after Ben Brereton Diaz opened the scoring for the home side, but the response after the interval was immediate and convincing.

Wilfried Gnonto equalised in the 55th minute before Ao Tanaka struck the second goal soon after. James Justin scored a third in stoppage time to ensure Leeds make it to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Joel Piroe’s penalty miss in the first half was a sore moment for Leeds. However, another Leeds star, Jack Harrison, produced a stinker of a performance, which should lead to his departure in the January window.

Daniel Farke must sell Leeds United star Jack Harrison in January

Farke used his squad in the FA Cup clash, and he got a clear idea about the players whom he can depend on and the ones he may not trust again.

Harrison’s performance ensured that he dropped into the second category. The Leeds winger did nothing to show that Farke is making a mistake by ignoring him in the Premier League.

He started in an attacking left wing-back role and showed little to suggest that he could even come close to pushing Gabriel Gudmundsson in that role.

With Leeds dominating the ball, Harrison had little to defend. However, his attacking output was really poor, and his crossing was shocking in some moments.

He finally got an opportunity to make a case for himself to get more game time this season. However, his performance at Derby may have ensured that he remains firmly on the fringes at Elland Road.

Leeds must sell Harrison in January

There was an argument to be had about keeping Harrison as a back-up left-back option, as Leeds do not have many options beyond Gudmundsson for that role.

However, Harrison’s performance against a Championship side was shocking, and he showed little to suggest that he could be a genuine squad option.

The 29-year-old has not had any meaningful Premier League minutes since January, which shows Farke has little to no faith in him.

Leeds should move on from Harrison in the winter transfer window and sign someone more competent to replace him in the squad for the rest of the season.

The Whites fans have not warmed up to Harrison since his return to the squad last summer, following a two-year loan spell at Everton.

No tears will be shed for the winger if he leaves Leeds on a permanent deal before the end of the January transfer window.
