Keith Wyness stunned by what Liverpool staff did to Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak should have been carried off on a stretcher following his injury sustained against Tottenham.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who was surprised that Isak was allowed to walk off the pitch.

Isak suffered an ankle injury against Tottenham following a challenge by Micky van de Ven in the midst of the 26-year-old scoring Liverpool‘s first goal of the game.

The strike was Isak’s second Premier League goal for Liverpool since joining the club for £125million in the summer transfer window.

Keith Wyness reacts to ‘very strange’ Alexander Isak situation

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the actions of the Liverpool staff could have “aggravated things even worse” for Isak.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the injury will be a “big blow” to Arne Slot.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t believe in karma to a degree, but you’ve got to think, well, is there something there the way this has all happened? Look, just after he scored a goal as well, I mean, it’s very strange.

“And even to see him, you know, the way he was taken off the pitch, he actually almost limped off the pitch rather than on a stretcher. It was surprising that wasn’t it, you know, given precautionary treatment by the staff.

“So that may have aggravated things even worse. Although he’s had the operations, I understand, Look, we wish him a speedy recovery. He’s a talented player, obviously. But it’s been a big blow for a lot of money invested in one player. But the whole deal just never felt right for everybody in football about the way it all happened.”

Arne Slot hit with double blow

Liverpool may have to take legal action if they want van de Ven to be punished for his challenge on Isak, with the Dutchman not receiving a card for the tackle by the referee.

Mohamed Salah’s departure to the African Cup of Nations, now coupled with an injury to Isak, leaves Slot without two key attacking players.

Cody Gakpo though could return for the visit of Wolves after missing the past three games due to injury.
