Ex-Premier League chairman: I’ll convince Jurgen Klopp to join my old club

Ex-Premier League chairman: I’ll convince Jurgen Klopp to join my old club

    Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Lord Alan Sugar believes he could convince Jurgen Klopp to become the next Tottenham manager as doubts linger over Thomas Frank’s position in charge.

Frank is facing an uncertain future as Tottenham boss after a 3-0 away defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend left them sat 11th in the Premier League.

Goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ibrahim Sangare inflicted a sixth league defeat of the season on Frank‘s side as they mustered just one shot on target all game.

Football Insider recently revealed that Frank is not under serious pressure at Spurs right now, but more heavy defeats to teams below them in the table may see him sacked soon.

Tottenham will be on the hunt for a third manager in the last 12 months if he does depart, with Klopp an unlikely name mooted by their former chairman, Lord Sugar.

Lord Sugar says he would be able to hire Klopp at Spurs

Sugar was the chairman and part-owner of Tottenham between 1991 and 2001, and he eventually sold his last shares in the club in 2007.

The star of the TV show ‘The Apprentice’ continues to follow Spurs as a fan of the club, and he took to X on Sunday to share that he wants the club to appoint Klopp soon in place of Frank.

He said: “With the massive fortune of the Lewis family it would be a win win situation if they hired Jurgen Klopp in January. Loads of money for players and a great manger. Who agrees.”

One fan replied to him to say: “If Lord Sugar was still chairman, I guarantee he would try for a Jürgen Klopp! I’ll never forget (Jurgen Klinsmann)!

Sugar replied to the supporter to back himself to succeed in appointing the former Liverpool boss, saying: “I would, and I am sure I could convince him.”

Klopp has options but is taking time out of management right now

Klopp needs no introduction to fans of the Premier League, but a return to England in a managerial capacity seems unlikely for the rest of his career, given his close ties to Liverpool.

The German admitted before he left Anfield last year that he would “never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool,” and his arrival would be a real coup for Spurs regardless, considering his brilliant record in the English top-flight.

He is currently taking time out of management as the Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull group, but will surely have offers in the pipeline if he wishes to return to the dugout soon.

Klopp has been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks as their boss Xabi Alonso continues to come under pressure, which seems a much more likely appointment than him going to Spurs.
