Premier League issue official statement on incident in West Ham loss vs Aston Villa
West Ham suffered a 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa and the Premier League issued an official statement about a moment in the game.
Goals from Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen did not prove to be enough as Unai Emery’s side mounted a spirited second-half comeback.
West Ham led Aston Villa 2-1 at half-time, but failed to make the most of their lead in the second period of the game.
What does Nuno need to do to FIX West Ham’s defence?
More points lost…

I think it’s time for Igor Julio to be starting regularly. Nuno also needs to make more proactive subs.
Premier League make Konstantinos Mavropanos announcement
Konstantinos Mavropanos did not have a game to remember for the Hammers.
Nuno named the Greece international in his starting eleven and he partnered Jean-Clair Todibo in the heart of defence.
Mavropanos’ inclusion may have cost West Ham the game.
Igor Julio is certainly the better of the two defenders. What do you make of Nuno’s decision?

This is my issue with Mavropanos. He can be great for 89 mins but then do something like this in the other one
While Ollie Watkins celebrated Villa’s opening goal, the strike was credited to Mavropanos, unfortunately, as an own goal.
The centre-back failed to defend the incoming cross and the ball found its way past Alphonse Areola in goal.
The Premier League then had their own accreditation panel take a look at the goal from all angles and did not hand it to the Villa striker.
Instead, they decided that it would go down as an own goal and made the announcement on X.
They wrote: “The goal accreditation panel has adjudged Aston Villa’s 9th minute goal as a Mavropanos own goal.”

Who is likely to start for West Ham United vs Manchester City?
Nuno has some tough decisions to make ahead of the Manchester City game on 20 December.
Lucas Paqueta could be dropped as he had another horrible encounter for the Hammers at the London Stadium.
Mavropanos also struggled and it could be Max Kilman or Igor Julio’s turn to return to the playing eleven.
Callum Wilson was on the bench again, so Nuno could decide to start him and potentially cause trouble for the City defenders.
With Aaron Wan-Bissaka and El Hadji Malick Diouf leaving for AFCON, Kyle Walker-Peters and Ollie Scarles could be named in the starting eleven as well.
City undoubtedly go into this one as favourites and it could be backs against the wall for the Hammers in order to get the job done.
