Opta Supercomputer shares Premier League relegation prediction as West Ham and Leeds United drop points

West Ham and Leeds United failed to win their respective Premier League games against Aston Villa and Brentford on Sunday.

Leeds could only get a point from their away game against Brentford, with that game ending 1-1.

Who was your West Ham MAN OF THE MATCH and why?

And was this Mateus Fernandes’ best performance yet?

West Ham predicted to end up with 37 points

After every round of fixtures, Opta’s Supercomputer crunches the numbers and predicts how many points each team will end up with.

They consider past data, current form and also the run of fixtures ahead, both in the short and longer term.

Paqueta’s stats make for awful reading…

This was his WORST EVER performance for West Ham…

Based on their numbers, West Ham United will end up with 37 points come the end of the season, after 38 games played.

    MORE WEST HAM STORIES

That would unfortunately mean that Nuno’s side will get relegated from the Premier League, as it is only good enough for 18th place.

Leeds, who are currently three points clear of the Hammers, are predicted to end up with just one more point come May.

However, that will be enough for Daniel Farke’s side to finish in 17th place.

Do West Ham need a better manager than Nuno to survive relegation?

Graham Potter clearly was not the man to address the Irons’ woes, which is why he was sacked by the hierarchy back in September.

Nuno took over from him and has overseen an interesting run of games.

While there undoubtedly is progress from the Potter days, the Portuguese’s side are failing to see out games.

They take the lead, but then cannot withstand the pressure that comes with holding onto the lead.

This has seen them drop two points against Brighton and three against Villa – making it five from two games.

Had they won both games, they would be in 16th place with some breathing room.

An argument could be made that under a better manager, West Ham would not have as much of a mentality problem and he could get the best from his attacking players.

However, it seems unlikely that a managerial change is on the cards, so the onus is on the fringe players to knock on Nuno’s door and ask for a chance in the playing eleven in the coming weeks.
