West Ham sign £22m defender and Liverpool man in dream January transfer XI
Nuno is expected to receive support from the West Ham board after a promising start. LondonWorld looks at how the Hammers could line up if current transfer rumours come true.
West Ham dream January transfer XI
Goalkeeper – Jose Sa
The goalkeeping position proved a real conundrum for Graham Potter at the start of the season. West Ham splurged £20 million on relegated Leicester City shot stopper Mads Hermansen and Potter threw him straight into the starting XI, only to be on the receiving end of heavy drubbings.
Alphonse Areola has since reclaimed the role and earned plaudits, but there’s a feeling that this is a position that could see January investment. Football Insider claims that the outlet are ‘closely monitoring’ Wolves man Jose Sa, who has fallen out of favour at Molineux.
Defenders – Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Charlie Cresswell, El Hadji Malick Diouf
Nuno has managed to add some solidity to the West Ham back four but the centre-back options at his disposal remain somewhat unconvincing. Max Kilman, who arrived from Wolves for £40 million in 2024, has been linked with a switch to Crystal Palace by Insider.
Should that happen, West Ham could ignite interest in Toulouse star Charlie Cresswell. The former Leeds United man is impressing in Ligue 1 but has been told that a move to the Premier League is necessary to make the step up from England under-21s to the senior side. Hammers News claims Toulouse will sell for £22 million in January.
West Ham add Liverpool midfielder to January shortlist
Defensive Midfielders – Freddie Potts, Soungoutou Magassa
Attacking Midfielders – Crysencio Summerville, Harvey Elliott, Jarrod Bowen
Soungoutou Magassa was the star of the night against Manchester United in midweek with an 83rd minute leveller. The 22-year-old has been eased into life in the Premier League but appears to be getting better and better with back-to-back starts now.
Lucas Paqueta is becoming an eternal problem for the club. When not reported to have requested a move away, his disciplinary problems make the headlines. It would be no surprise to see West Ham cash in on the Brazilian in January. That could potentially fund a move for Liverpool man Harvey Elliott, who Claret and Hugh report is on the Hammers watchlist. Elliott is on loan at Aston Villa but a recall has been touted.
Striker – Promise David
Niclas Fullkrug is set to end his dire year-and-a-half stint at the London Stadium in January with a return to Germany. West Ham are in desperate need of a talisman to lead the line given that they are unable to rely on the fitness of 33-year-old Callum Wilson.
There’s no shortage of links but the latest this weekend is with Union Saint-Gillloise bagsman Promise David, as per GiveMeSport. The 24-year-old is 6ft 5in and has nine goals for club and country this term.
