“Enough is Enough” as Tuchel Favourite Returns to West Ham
West Ham United last week decided to recall Lewis Orford from his loan spell at Stevenage who issued a statement wishing him well for the next stage of his career. For West Ham, the priority is ensuring the academy star continues to play regularly, whether in U21 fixtures or potentially another loan move better suited to his development.
Orford, joined Stevenage in September 2025 on a season-long loan. Stevenage were flying high at the start of the campaign, sitting near the top of the table, and West Ham hoped Orford would gain experience in a competitive environment.
Unfortunately, the loan did not unfold as planned. In the league Orford managed just one substitute appearance, a 16-minute cameo in a 1–0 defeat to Reading. He also featured for 22 minutes in Stevenage’s loss to Chesterfield, in the FA Cup.

However, Stevenage’s strong midfield options and focus on results meant Orford was rarely trusted in league fixtures.
For West Ham, and the player it is likely they will now look for a club where he can get consistent minutes under his belt. His talent is clear, he has already captained England U19s, 3 caps for the England U20s and made his Premier League debut. Tomas Tuchel recently fast tracked the youngster into training with the England first team.
Orford signed a five year extension to his contract with West Ham in September 2024, and Nuno Espírito Santo will be closely watching the player now he is back at the Rush Green Training complex.
