Everton set for inevitable transfer overhaul as Toffees top shocking Premier League stat

Everton are surely on the cusp of a massive overhaul of their squad given the high average age of their starting XI.

Since David Moyes has come to Everton, he has not been afraid to bring in new players, while also letting many depart.

Stars such as Abdoulaye Doucoure departed Everton in the summer, while players such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were brought into the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

While the quality of the squad has vastly improved, this may not last forever, with many of their first-teamers nearing the end of their careers.

Everton have the oldest average starting XI in the Premier League

It is clear that many of Everton’s starting lineup are old.

    MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Idrissa Gana Gueye is 36 years old and continuing to play week in week out for the Toffees.

In fact, in Everton’s 2-0 win over Fulham, five of the 11 starters were 30 years old or older.

Now, BBC Sport on 23 November has confirmed that so far this season, the Toffees have the oldest average starting XI in the Premier League, currently standing at 28 years and 190 days old.

    • Everton have multiple players over the age of 30
    • Idrissa Gueye continues to be a regular despite being 36 years old
    • As a result, the Toffees have the oldest average starting XI in the Premier League

On top of this, Moyes has also used the lowest number of players this season in the division at 19.

Therefore, surely a squad overhaul in the coming summer is inevitable. The Toffees need younger players of quality in their starting XI, ready to take over from the old guard.

If this is not done, another relegation battle in the coming years is likely, and this time, Everton might not survive.

Hopefully, Moyes already has targets in mind, ready to replace many of their star players as they close in on the end of their careers.

Harrison Armstrong provides hope for Everton

With Gueye coming to the end of his career, one player who could step up for Everton to fill this hole is Harrison Armstrong.

Armstrong has performed well on loan at Preston, as he looks to win promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder is only 18 years old, yet already possesses plenty of quality.

If he continues on this trajectory, there is no reason why he could not be the next breakthrough star at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and save the Merseyside club plenty of funds on a Gueye replacement.
