Exclusive: West Ham dispatch senior scout to watch star in Birmingham vs Norwich clash

West Ham have dispatched a senior scout to watch Josh Sargent play for Norwich City on Saturday, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are in the market for a new striker ahead of the January window.

Sources say Sargent, 25, is firmly on West Ham‘s radar as they assess forward options.

One of the Irons’ senior scouts will assess the USA international in Norwich’s clash against Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday, 22 November.

West Ham join the race for Josh Sargent

With five goals and two assists in his first 16 Championship appearances, clubs are beginning to line up for the striker’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.

Football Insider understood that Sunderland made contact for Sargent on deadline day in September, but it would have been a major blow for the Canaries.

Only Borja Sainz scored more goals for Norwich than the 25-year-old last season, and with Nuno Espirito Santo desperate for more firepower, he is well and truly on the Hammers’ radar.

West Ham are currently sitting 18th in the Premier League table, and with Jarrod Bowen struggling for form, a new forward signing in January makes sense for Nuno.

Football Insider understands that Werder Bremen are exploring a deal for Niclas Fullkrug, with the German heavily linked with an exit already, and that would only leave Callum Wilson as a senior striker.

The former Newcastle United man is talented enough, but with an awful injury record, the manager is unlikely to risk starting him every game until the end of the season.

West Ham are also interested in Troy Parrott following his heroics on international duty, Mick Brown told Football Insider, so it is clear that the trip to St Andrews’ will be worth it for the Premier League club.

The Canaries are four points outside of the relegation zone ahead of their clash with Birmingham. Therefore, it might be easy to convince Sargent to jump to the top tier of English football.
