Everton have new transfer priority already as £20m to go down the drain

Everton had a net spend of £96.9million in the previous transfer window, but David Moyes will be hoping for more of the same going forward.

The Toffees signed eight new players in the summer, plus Carlos Alcaraz’s loan move from Flamengo was made permanent.

Some new additions like Tyler Dibling and Thierno Barry haven’t lived up to expectations so far, with the recent recruitment in L4 arguably hit and miss.

Merlin Rohl signed for the Toffees from Freiburg on loan, with a 21.6m obligation to buy.

The Germany Under-21 international has since struggled with fitness issues at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and it doesn’t look encouraging for the Blues.

In the Premier League, the 23-year-old has made just four appearances off the bench and is set to miss a couple of more weeks after undergoing surgery.

Moyes spoke about Rohl’s injury ahead of facing Manchester United on 24 November, admitting the midfielder will be out for a few weeks.

The Merseyside outfit’s supporters have seen the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin fail to find consistency due to multiple fitness issues, and the money they’re going to spend on Rohl could potentially go down the drain.

Moyes may now prioritise another midfield addition already in the winter transfer window as the former Freiburg star shows signs of being unreliable.

Moyes wants to sign James Ward-Prowse in January, with the Englishman currently surplus to requirements at West Ham United under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Everton should look for reinforcements in the middle of the park, with Idrissa Gueye expected to leave with Senegal for AFCON.
