Jeff Stelling moots West Ham relegation despite Nuno Espirito Santo doing ‘the right thing’

Jeff Stelling still sees West Ham facing relegation even with the influence of Nuno Espirito Santo.

It has been a mixed start for Nuno since being appointed by West Ham back in September after Graham Potter was sacked.

There were positive signs in his first outing as West Ham drew 1-1 with Everton, but things did go downhill from there at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are now coming off the back of consecutive wins following West Ham’s 3-2 victory against Burnley last time around.

Stelling is unsold on the Irons and their survival hopes as things stand, even after Nuno made a positive change in East London.

West Ham backed to face relegation under Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham are still in a relegation battle, but have plenty of time remaining to turn things around and drag themselves out of the mire.

After back-to-back Premier League wins, the aim of moving clear of the bottom three is coming further into view.

With 11 games gone, questions have been raised about who will face relegation come May after 38.

Even with six points out of a possible six, the Irons are still sitting 18th, and fixtures aren’t looking in their favour.

Stelling believes Burnley will drop back to the Championship, with the Hammers potentially facing the same fate in the coming months.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on 17 November, he said: “I think Wolves will go, I think their fans will accept that. I think that Burnley will go and Leeds or West Ham.

“No [I don’t think West Ham have enough], I think as it is right now, I don’t think they’ve got anywhere near enough. I think Nuno’s done the right thing by putting people like Freddie Potts in the side.“

The claret and blue outfit were in desperate need of midfield options throughout the summer and eventually brought in Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa.

That hasn’t stopped Potter and Nuno from utilising the likes of Alan Irving, Tomas Soucek and Guido Rodriguez so far this season.

Frustration has surrounded these sorts of players, but that has subsided somewhat due to the emergence of Potts in the Premier League.

After spending last season on loan at Portsmouth, the 22-year-old looks ready to become the go-to man for the Irons in the middle of the park.
