Former Derby striker joins Championship rivals as transfer confirmed

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder(Image: PA)Former Derby County striker Patrick Bamford has signed for Championship rivals Sheffield United on a short-term deal until January.
The Blades have moved to sign the former Leeds forward to help bolster their attacking options with United currently in the bottom three of the Championship table.
The move has caught a few by surprise, given Bamford, who spent time on loan at Derby earlier in his career, and his history with Blades boss Chris Wilder.
Wilder previously hit out at Bamford during a promotion battle, while Bamford spearheaded an anti-Wilder chant following Leeds’ promotion last term.
Bamford left Leeds in the summer after the window closed and had recently been training with former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard at Coventry.
Wilder has been compelled to take drastic measures as Sheffield United languish at the bottom of the Championship table, having netted the fewest goals (11) across the division during the opening 15 fixtures of this campaign.
Callum O’Hare leads the scoring charts with four strikes whilst Tyrese Campbell has managed three, with three other players – Andre Brooks, Harrison Burrows and Sam McCallum – each contributing one goal. Tom Cannon remains without a goal, alongside summer acquisition Danny Ings and last season’s 10-goal talisman Gus Hamer.
Kieffer Moore departed for Wrexham following Wilder’s dismissal after the play-off final defeat – before his swift return to replace successor Ruben Selles.
The club finds itself in a precarious position regarding Cannon, having approved a £10 million acquisition from Leicester in January after the 22-year-old striker had found the net 11 times during the first half of the season whilst on loan with a struggling Stoke outfit.
He penned a four-year deal but has netted just once across his opening 29 outings for the side and was completely omitted from the matchday squad for a fixture against Derby, alongside loan exile Louie Barry.
He remained on the substitutes’ bench during a goalless stalemate with QPR in their most recent outing after earning an unexpected starting berth against Coventry during the midweek encounter.
Wilder informed Radio Sheffield following the reverse at the CBS Arena: “Tom stretched the game for us. Tyrese stretched the game for us.
“Tom is another player, like a lot of them, that are searching and are trying to find the form that we know that they have got.”
The Sheffield Star reported: “A surprise name back on the teamsheet here after being dropped at the weekend, not just back in the squad but back in the starting line-up. Boss Wilder said he wanted to see more aggression from the United No.7 and there were signs of that, and he showed good awareness and execution to pull the ball back for Peck’s blocked chance.
“But a total of seven touches in 66 minutes on the field tells its own story in terms of Cannon’s involvement before he was replaced by Ings.”
