David Moyes says one Everton player should be called up for England and it’s not Jack Grealish

David Moyes says one Everton player should be called up for England and it’s not Jack Grealish

As Thomas Tuchel prepares for the next round of England games, David Moyes has told the Three Lions gaffer that he should consider calling up one of his Everton stars.

Everton have a rich history of supplying great players for the England squad, with Jordan Pickford being the main man between the sticks for his country for years now.

At the moment, all the talk is around Jack Grealish being snubbed by Tuchel for England’s double-header against Serbia and Albania.

But, David Moyes believes there’s another Everton player who could be part of the squad in the near future after his performances this season.

Thomas Tuchel should look at James Garner

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning, Moyes was asked about the displays of James Garner, who has quietly done a brilliant job for the Toffees this season.

Moyes replied: “He’s been fantastic since I came in. I didn’t realise how good he was, he’s so good, he’s great in midfield and he’s probably getting closer to people talking about him getting an England call. He’s played full-back, done a brilliant job for us, and is playing very well.

“England have so many players to select… but he’s one of those young English midfielders who can have a chance.”

Many have praised Garner for his switch to full-back this season, and he was outstanding yet again versus Fulham at the weekend.

    MORE EVERTON STORIES

He’s still only 24-years-old, and with his versatility, there’s every chance Tuchel could consider him for his next squad to see whether he can add something to the England setup. Indeed, it would be very useful to have someone who can operate in different positions as part of the final tournament squad for the World Cup.

David Moyes predicts World Cup disappointment for England

Despite his vested interest in getting more of his Everton players involved in the England squad, Moyes clearly didn’t fancy the Three Lions’ chances of success in America next summer.

When asked if he would admit England can win the World Cup, the Scotsman said: “Not a chance [they will win the World Cup]… I wouldn’t be allowed to cross the border if I said that.

“You have to think about the conditions in America though. England are incredibly strong but I think quarter-finals or semi-finals would be really good for England there.”

Naturally, he has to say that about Scotland’s fierce rivals, so we’ll take that harsh prediction with a pinch of salt and hope Moyes is wrong about England.
