West Ham make Nuno Espirito Santo sack decision as mistake ‘accepted’

Nuno Espirito Santo looks glum in a West Ham press conference

    Sun 26 October 2025 6:08, UK

Nuno Espirito Santo has won just one point out of the available 12 since taking charge of West Ham in late September.

After drawing his first game in charge against Everton, Nuno oversaw his third loss in a row at the hands of Leeds on Friday night.

And if Wolves beat Burnley at Molineux on Sunday, West Ham will head into gameweek 10 at the bottom of the Premier League standings.

Nottingham Forest have already axed Ange Postecoglou, the man who replaced Nuno, and replaced him with Sean Dyche.

Many will be wondering if the Hammers are considering a swift and brutal change as well.

West Ham ready to back Nuno Espirito Santo in January transfer window

David Sullivan has never been a man to pull the trigger on his managers too early. There was no doubt a lot of hesitancy surrounding West Ham’s decision to sack Graham Potter in September, as the co-chairman has always preferred to change managers in off-season periods.

And it seems that Nuno will be given time by Sullivan and the board to turn things around after such a woeful start to his spell in charge.

OpponentResultNuno’s first four results as West Ham manager.

According to The Sun, the Hammers have decided they will back Nuno in the January transfer window so that he can improve the squad he inherited from Potter.

It is understood that “it is accepted that it was a mistake not to add another striker” in the summer, when only free agent Callum Wilson arrived in that area of the squad.

West Ham are also reportedly looking at adding to their defence because summer signing Igor Julio has barely played and Konstantinos Mavropanos is facing a lengthy spell out injured.

What strikers can West Ham sign in January?

Nuno went as far as not starting a striker on Friday night as the Irons lost 2-1 at Elland Road.

It shows how little faith he has in Wilson if he’d rather play zero strikers than play him, so something needs to change in January.

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has been linked with a loan move to the London Stadium but there are no doubt other, more prolific options out there.

Ivan Toney should be at the top of Nuno’s shopping list.

The 29-year-old has 36 Premier League goals to his name in 85 appearances, but he’s currently wasting away in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

Get him back to England, Nuno.
