Title: “Derby County Boss Determined To Keep Star Amid Celtic Interest”

Derby County manager Paul Warne has made it clear he does not want to lose one of his standout players amid rising transfer speculation linking the individual with a move to Scottish giants Celtic. The Rams boss has addressed the growing talk around a possible January or summer switch, insisting that the club will do everything it can to retain key talent as they push for promotion to the Championship.

The player in question—whose identity remains undisclosed amid the fluid nature of negotiations—is reportedly being monitored by Celtic scouts, with the Scottish champions keen to bolster their squad ahead of a demanding European and domestic schedule. The 2025 January window is already heating up with speculation, and Derby County’s impressive form has naturally drawn attention to several of their top performers.

Speaking to local media following Derby’s latest League One outing, Warne said:

“He’s a very good player, and of course, when you’re doing well, there’s always going to be interest. But we’re building something here. I don’t want to lose him, and the club shares that view.”

The manager’s firm stance will reassure Derby fans, who are understandably wary of losing influential players mid-season. After a strong start to their League One campaign, Derby currently sit within striking distance of the automatic promotion places. Continuity and squad stability remain top priorities for Warne, who has blended youth and experience to good effect this season.

Celtic, meanwhile, are known for their extensive scouting network, especially in the English lower leagues, where they’ve unearthed gems in the past. The allure of European football and the opportunity to play under the bright lights of Celtic Park could be tempting for any player, but Derby are hoping their own project and the player’s pivotal role in it will be enough to hold off suitors.

    Warne added:

“It’s flattering for him to have clubs of that stature looking at him, but he knows how important he is to us. He’s got a great relationship with the staff, with the fans, and he’s playing regularly. That’s not something you give up lightly.”

Sources close to the club suggest that Derby have not received a formal approach from Celtic yet, but are aware of their interest. Internal discussions are ongoing to potentially offer the player an improved contract, reinforcing the club’s commitment to its core players.

While Warne didn’t confirm whether the club would be prepared to reject offers outright, his comments indicate that Derby’s current focus is on promotion, and not on cashing in.

“If we’re serious about going up, we need to keep our best players. It’s as simple as that,” Warne said. “We’re not here to be a stepping stone – we’re here to win games and get this club back where it belongs.”

The January transfer window always brings uncertainty, particularly for clubs in League One where financial realities sometimes force difficult decisions. However, Derby appear resolute in their stance—any departure would have to be on their terms and only if it benefits the long-term vision of the club.

For now, Warne and Derby County remain focused on the pitch, where performances continue to show a squad united in purpose. While outside interest is inevitable, the Rams seem ready to hold their ground and continue their push toward promotion, with or without the distraction of transfer speculation.

As January draws closer, the eyes of Celtic and other interested clubs will no doubt remain fixed on Pride Park. But based on Warne’s comments, Derby fans can rest assured the club won’t part ways with key players without a fight.
