Tottenham told player will be ‘very happy’ to complete summer transfer
Tottenham could already be in a good position to wrap up a summer transfer agreement worth a fair amount of money. Spurs have enjoyed a solid start to the season, already looking far more resolute under Thomas Frank.
The Frank appointment already feels as though it could be the right fit, and while there are improvements to be made, there is optimism over the potential to compete for Champions League qualification.
Among the key summer additions was Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha, who joined on a loan deal for the season having already had previous success in the Premier League with Fulham.
Palhinha has added key depth and competition to the midfield, with Frank now having the Portugal international along with Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur to call upon, while Yves Bissouma and Archie Gray are also options.
The good news for Tottenham is that they have already agreed a £27million option to buy in the Palhinha deal, and it seems as though all parties are already on board with the deal being made permanent. Following reports that Spurs were already planning to make the deal permanent, Ben Jacobs has reported that the midfielder himself is also om board with the deal being struck.
“I think the Joao Palhinha signing has been excellent for Tottenham,” Jacobs told GiveMeSport. “The original agreement had an option to buy, which is set at £27million. That was something that both Tottenham and the player were very keen on factoring in as part of the deal.

“Palhinha, in particular, viewed the loan as being contingent, in many ways, on having that option to buy because he would like to be permanently back in the Premier League. If Spurs choose to take up the option, the player will be very happy with that because he dove into the move, wanting that permanence to begin with.”
Frank praised Palhinha after Tottenham’s early season win over Manchester City. He said: “I think it’s fair to say that we’ve got a few questions about the transfer market yesterday – a lot about why not, and what if, and all that.
“What is 100 per cent sure is that we brought two top players into the club, (Mohammed) Kudus and Palhinha. Both of them performed very well, which I’m very pleased with. And Palhinha, wow. You know, sometimes players need confidence, and they need to be on top. I actually don’t think he’s fully fit yet where I want him to be, but very pleased with his performance and he’s definitely helping the team.”
Palhinha himself also seems to be enjoying life back in the Premier League. Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Brighton over the weekend, the midfielder said: “At least what we can take is the mentality that we had fighting for the result. This mentality needs to be there always regardless of the result.”
