Nebraska lands big-time 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor.
Nebraska continues its run of highly touted quarterbacks with the commitment of Trae Taylor (6-3, 186 lbs) from Carmel Catholic in Mundelein, Illinois.
Taylor is a 4-star recruit and ranked 35th nationally and the third quarterback according to the 247 composite rankings. Matt Rhule is stockpiling real talent in the quarterback room with the addition of Taylor. LSU recruited Taylor, as did Texas A&M, and Big Ten rival Illinois. He is the first commitment for the 2027 class, but quarterbacks commit early to secure the all-important roster spots.
Quarterback opportunity
Nebraska is a smart landing spot for a quarterback in the 2027 class, with Dylan Raiola finishing his third year and unproven quarterbacks in the room like TJ Lateef and Dayton Raiola to duke it out for the starting role.
Smart money would say that the combination of Matt Rhule, Dana Holgorsen, and Dylan Raiola will keep growing the offense. Quarterbacks want the opportunity to play right away in an offense that can showcase their skills.
Pocket presence
Taylor has an excellent pocket presence and looks comfortable stepping up to make throws over the middle, which gels with Nebraska’s emphasis on using tight ends and skill players in space. He might not have the polished throwing action of a Dylan Raiola, but he can squeeze the ball into tight windows.
One area where he has an advantage is his escapability; he is by no means a dual-threat quarterback, but he looks more than comfortable rolling out of the pocket and wrong-footing defenders.
